[I can also not create  file, create a solution, or do anything besides load a current solutin]
I am unable to open 'any' file in MonoDevelop. 

The file '...' could not be opened. Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation.

This has been fixed. I'm not sure if the fix made it into MonoDevelop 2.8 Beta 3, but it will be in 2.8 final for sure. As a workaround I think you can get around this issue by disabling/closing the 'Files' pad which is normally displayed on the lefthand side of MonoDevelop.
